Crime Prevention Services
A variety of crime prevention programs exist to help reduce the occurrence of crime on campus and in the neighborhoods around the University.
- Safety Presentations -- Officials from the Department of Public Safety are available to make presentations to faculty, staff and student groups about efforts they can take to protect themselves and their offices and residences from crime. Contact Sergeant Winfred Walton, Investigative Supervisor, at (202) 687-4343 to schedule a session.
- Security Audits -- Faculty, staff and students that have experienced difficulties with theft or crime in their campus offices or residential units or those interested in becoming more aware of ways to prevent crime may request personnel from the Department of Public Safety to conduct a security audit and analysis. This service may provide suggestions and recommendations for deterring crime in these areas.
- Personal Safety Week -- Every Fall, the Department of Public Safety sponsors Personal Safety Week on campus, a series of events promoting crime prevention strategies. Programs are offered on a range of topics including: sexual assault, self-defense and property protection.
- Self-Defense Workshops -- The Georgetown University Women’s Center sponsors a workshop of self defense for members of the campus community each semester. Workshops are advertised on and around campus.
