Campus Security Authorities

In addition to the Department of Public Safety there are three other law enforcement agencies which operate on the Georgetown University campus: Georgetown University Law Center Department of Public Safety, Georgetown University Hospital Security, and the Conference Center Loss Prevention Office. There are also a number of campus security authorities that are responsible for reporting incidents of alleged crimes on and near campus to the Department of Public Safety.

Campus Security Authorities include: 1) any individual who has responsibility for campus security who monitors entrances to university property; 2) any individual specified by the university to receive reports of offenses; and 3) any official of the university who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities.

Campus Security Authorities are those persons defined as follows:

  • The Director and members of DPS, Law Center DPS, Hospital Security, and the Conference Center Loss Prevention Office.
  • Individuals having responsibility for campus security, who are not members of these law enforcement departments, such as those responsible for monitoring the entrances to university property.
  • All employees, including student employees, who work in a position where they control or monitor access to some part of campus.
  • Any person or organization specified in the Department of Public Safety campus security policy as one to which student and employees should report criminal offenses.
  • All university officials who have significant responsibility for student and campus activities, except pastoral and professional counselors when functioning as such.
