Public Safety Alert: Sex Offense in Burleith
At 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2008, MPD notified DPS of a complaint received at 10:00 a.m. the same day. The complainant reported to MPD that at some time during the overnight hours of Friday, September 5, an unknown male entered her bedroom, got into her bed, and put his arm around her. She awoke and got out of the bed. The suspect then left her room and exited the apartment. At the time of the incident, the complainant was unsure if the suspect was a guest of another roommate.Upon looking around the apartment later the same morning, she found the front window ajar and some items knocked over. The back door was also unlocked and muddy shoe prints were found inside the residence. The complainant reported that when she went to sleep, the front window may have been open or unlocked, but that the back door was locked. No property was reported missing. MPD responded to the scene upon notification from the complainant at approximately 10:00 a.m.

- Practice security at home by not propping doors open, always keeping doors and windows locked, even when you are in residence, and not opening the door to strangers.
