Public Safety Announcement: Robbery at 33rd & O Streets
At 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, a complainant reported to DPS that shortly after midnight the same day, while walking back to campus, a white male passed him at 33rd and O Streets and asked him for a smoke. The complainant replied that he did not smoke. The suspect stated that he did not either and asked the complainant for his wallet. The complainant refused and the suspect hit the complainant in the face with his fists, knocking him to the ground. The complainant gave the suspect his wallet and cell phone. The suspect fled towards Wisconsin Avenue.The Department of Public Safety is requesting that anyone who has information regarding this or any other incident(s), or who noticed any suspects before or after the incident(s), to contact them immediately at (202) 687-4343.

At 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, a complainant reported to DPS that shortly after midnight the same day, while walking back to campus, a white male passed him at 33rd and O Streets and asked him for a smoke. The complainant replied that he did not smoke. The suspect stated that he did not either and asked the complainant for his wallet. The complainant refused and the suspect hit the complainant in the face with his fists, knocking him to the ground. The complainant gave the suspect his wallet and cell phone. The suspect fled towards Wisconsin Avenue.
Victim(s):The complainant received injuries to the right side of his face and forehead and bruises to his left arm.
Victim(s) status:At the time the complainant reported the incident, he stated that he had not sought medical attention nor contacted MPD and that he was not in need of medical attention. DPS contacted GERMS to provide a medical assessment. DPS also contacted MPD, who responded to campus.
Witness description of suspect(s):The suspect is described as a white male, 23-25 years old, blond hair (buzz cut), unshaven, 6'- 6'2" tall, 190-200 lbs, wearing a black tee shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes.
Safety Reminder
The Department of Public Safety would like to remind all students to practice the following security measures:
- On campus students should call DPS at 202-687-4343 regarding any safety concerns.
- Off campus students with immediate safety concerns should call MPD at 911 and DPS at 687-HELP.
- Practice security at home by not propping doors open, always keeping doors and windows locked, even when you are in residence, and not opening the door to strangers.
- Students noticing suspicious activities or individuals loitering around entrances to residence halls, apartments, or townhouses should immediately notify DPS at 202-687-4343.
- Students may utilize the services of THE SHUTTLE or DPS SAFERIDES escorts as a means of providing safe passage off-campus. Call 784-RIDE for DPS SAFERIDES escorts.
